In addition to brain cancers, solid tumors include many of the most common cancers such as breast, lung, colorectal, and prostate. These are broken into three categories based on their origin:
- Carcinoma – begins in organ tissue (cells) such as brain, breast and prostate.
- Sarcoma – begins in bone tissue, cartilage, fat, muscle, or blood vessels. A different type of cell which mutates to a different type of cancer.
- Melanoma – begins in the cells responsible for skin pigmentation, a third type of cancer growth.
